‘Our new neighbours – twin turbines move in next door’

A great piece by Margaret Burin from the ABC. There is also a video of the construction on the Hepburn site, available via the ABC link. Our new neighbours – twin turbines move in next door Dianne and George Watson have been sitting and watching excitedly as piece by piece two wind turbines are built on their doorstep. The second turbine of Hepburn Wind, Australia’s first community wind farm, is near completion at Leonards Hill near Daylesford. While wind farms have divided communities – with complaints about ill-health effects, noise and their appearance – Dianne and George are excited at … Continue reading ‘Our new neighbours – twin turbines move in next door’

Leonards Hill wind farm: first turbine goes up

Another side of the wind energy story – supporting community renewable energy projects

“We have had a massive campaign of misinformation around here regarding the wind farm, largely spread by the Landscape Guardians”. A journalist from regional Victoria said to me this week. The story from Collector in NSW is a reminder that there is some very fearful and small minded thinking going on across rural Australia when it comes to renewable energy. . We think that it’s worth remembering there is another side to this story. We should recall that, to a large degree, the roll out of renewables has been a great story for regional areas – for land owners, local … Continue reading Another side of the wind energy story – supporting community renewable energy projects

Construction starts at Leonards Hill

The farm is predicted to annually generate more power than is used by the houses of Leonards Hill, Daylesford and everything in between. You can find further information on the project here.
