The Laws Of Physics Not Consciously Aware of Human Behaviour, Reports The Australian

There’s a clever way of criticising something, without needing to adhere to logic or reality. For example:

“I purchased this vehicle recently. Unfortunately, after a week using the vehicle, I found that it was unable to fly. I deem this vehicle to be a failure.”

Set your own criteria. If you really want the subject of your criticism to fail, intentionally shape those criteria to guarantee failure.

It’s this fallacy that drives criticism of the generation output of wind energy on hot days. As with all fallacies, it’s convenient, simple and palatable. Continue reading “The Laws Of Physics Not Consciously Aware of Human Behaviour, Reports The Australian”

Blade addition could boost wind turbine power up to 20%

Published by www.windpowerengineering.com. View original article

Researchers at Rutgers University have invented and tested a patent-pending wind turbine blade deflector that transforms a strong drag force into a strong lifting force. “The deflector, not a vortex generator, is based upon a powerful force that other airfoil designs don’t address,” says Corey Park, CEO of Dynamic Blade Technologies, a company formed to commercialize this technology and other turbine blade inventions. Park says that adding the deflector has the potential to boost turbine output in light to moderate winds by some 20%. For example, if a 3 MW turbine producing 1,000 kW in a particular wind were refitted with the deflectors, it would produce 1,200 kW. What’s more, a 5% power increase typically translates into a 20% increase in profit for turbine owners. Continue reading “Blade addition could boost wind turbine power up to 20%”

All New Australian Power Plants Will Be Renewable Through 2020

Published by www.cleantechnica.com. View original article.

According to the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), all new electricity generation capacity in Australia will be from renewable energy. It will mostly be from wind energy, while 13% of that is expected to be from large-scale solar PV, and 3% from biomass.

After years of hearing very little about Australia’s transition from fossil fuels, there has been Sydney’s plan to go 100% renewable by 2030 and a lot of big news in 2013. But the next several years will be even bigger. Continue reading “All New Australian Power Plants Will Be Renewable Through 2020”

Wind Turbines Survive Hurricanes: What a Blow to Doubters

Published by www.barnardonwind.com. View original post.

An occasional complaint against wind turbines is that they don’t work or self-destruct when there is too much wind. It might be scraping the bottom of the oil barrel, but it’s worth debunking this as well. What does the history of wind energy really show? Wind farm noise complainants and anti-wind groups: how many, how large?

On January 10 Prime Minister Tony Abbott signaled that it might be timely for the National Health and Medical Research Council to review the evidence on wind farms and health saying “it is some years since the NHMRC last looked at this issue: why not do it again?” He appears to be poorly informed. The NHMRC reviewed the evidence in 2010, and has been re-reviewing it again since 2012, with the release of a public discussion document imminent.

There have been no less than 19 reviews of the evidence on wind farms and health published since 2002. All have concluded that while sometimes a minority of people exposed report adverse health effects from living near turbines, there is no good evidence that these effects are directly attributable to the turbines. Wind Power Breaks Records In Spain — Produces More Electricity Than Any Other Source For 3 Months, & Breaks 6 TWh in January

Denmark, the US, and Germany aren’t the only countries breaking wind power records these days. Spain is also a notable leader seeing strong wind power growth. In fact, it just saw its wind farms produce more electricity than any other source for a 3-month time period, for the first time ever.

2012 proved to be a record-setting year for the US wind power industry. More than 13 gigawatts (GW) of wind power capacity was installed across the country last year, with a record-breaking 8,380 megawatts (MW) installed in the fourth quarter (4Q) alone, according to the American Wind Energy Association’s (AWEA) 4Q industry report. The decision by Warren Buffett’s utility company to order about $1 billion of wind turbines for projects in Iowa shows how a drop in equipment costs is making renewable energy more competitive with power from fossil fuels. Continue reading “Buffett’s $1 Billion Order Shows Wind Power Rivals Coal”

TrustPower offer payments to wind project neighbours

New Zealand wind farm developer TrustPower is proposing to pay owners of properties neighbouring wind farms – as well as the turbine hosts – in a model it will likely adopt in other projects. Continue reading “TrustPower offer payments to wind project neighbours”

China on world’s ‘biggest push’ for wind power

Published by www.bbc.co.uk. View original post.
Wind farmChina has embarked on the greatest push for renewable energy the world has ever seen.

A key element involves more than doubling the number of wind turbines in the next six years.

Already the world’s largest producer of wind power, China plans further massive increases. Continue reading “China on world’s ‘biggest push’ for wind power”
