After the election of the backward Morrison government last month, the need for passionate, grassroots campaigns for renewable energy and climate jobs is now more important than ever.
Here in Victoria, the Yes 2 Renewables collective is fighting for climate jobs because our campaign is fundamentally about transforming the economy for people and planet.
If you think that’s awesome, sign up as an Active Friend of Yes 2 Renewables, or make a once-off donation.
Last week the first sod turned at the Berrybank wind farm in Western Vic. The wind turbine hubs will be built at the former Ford factory in Geelong, and the wind technicians trained in Ballarat. All made possible because of the Victorian Renewable Energy Target we campaigned on for years.
These are climate jobs, and we want to see thousands more.
There is no doubt that Morrison is a threat to the renewable energy revolution, but there are big opportunities for action here in Victoria. Here’s why:
1. Game changing renewable energy projects on the horizon
The first exploratory studies for the Star of the South offshore wind farm proposed for Gippsland South are expected to begin soon. If Star of the South becomes reality it would create thousands of jobs, and help pave the way for a just transition out of fossil fuel dependence.
2. Wind & solar slated for Latrobe Valley
From the Delburn wind farm to solar at Toongabbie, new renewable energy projects are being proposed for the Latrobe Valley — this is an opportunity to deliver real economic benefits in renewables to the historically coal-dependent region.
3. Victoria can create climate jobs and cut emissions
Consultation has just opened on Victoria’s economy-wide emissions reduction targets for 2025 and 2030. The Daniel Andrews government has the opportunity to be bold and ambitious on climate, and create thousands of climate jobs in renewable energy construction and manufacturing, energy efficiency, transport and other sectors. We want to make that happen.
If you share our vision for climate jobs, join us and help make it a reality.
Donations to Yes 2 Renewables are tax deductible — support us before the end of financial year.
