Yes 2 Renewables will kick off 2014 with a bang. We invite you to join us for a screening of the wind energy documentary, The Way the Wind Blows, on Tuesday February 4. The event will also feature Q&A with the director.
So, what it the documentary about?
The small western Victorian town of Waubra came to national attention in the late 2000s when anti-wind campaigners claimed the local wind farm was causing health problems for residents. These claims resulted in an ABC’s Four Corners investigation into the so-called ‘Waubra disease’.
Intrigued by the controversy, independent filmmaker Neil Barrett travelled to Waubra to find out what was really going on only to find a different story. Barrett’s film counters the myths and gives locals a voice for the first time. Since the film’s release, Waubra locals have taken steps to reclaim their town’s name from an anti-wind farm campaign group.
Victoria has the world’s most restrictive wind farm planning laws which stalls critically important renewable energy projects in our state. Yes 2 Renewables has helped raise awareness about the Baillieu/Napthine government’s anti-wind farm laws since 2011. In 2014, we hope to put anti-wind farm laws on the Victorian election agenda. Come along, find out about wind energy, have a yarn, and get involved.
